  • I have had 3 of these undercounter icemakers. The first I bought in 1993 and sold with my house in 2004. I had to have it repaired twice during that time. The second I bought for my current house in 2015. I had it repaired twice due to the sensor that cuts off the ice when the storage box is full. It failed again recently and was not repairable due to a compressor failure. Despite the maintenance issues, I love the icemaker. It makes beautiful clear ice and at around $2000 is the least expensive unit I could find that makes the demineralized ice. Having ice at around 32 degrees makes it great for carbonated beverages, tea, water or whatever. It is flavorless so it does not impact the taste of whatever you are putting it into. It is great for ice packs too. One improvement would be to remove the small lip on the storage holder for the scoop. When the storage bin is full, ice often gets into the holder for the scoop and keeps it from being put back in completely and that blocks the door from closing. I took the holder off and used my Dremel to remove the lip and it now allows the scoop to easily push out any ice that gets into the holder and then it will go fully into place allowing the door to close. • Replaced another brand with this Whirlpool. Working really well making tons of ice that’s perfectly clear. We love it! My only constructive feedback is that the installation instructions could be more clear about what parts are needed and the different ways to install (pump vs no pump etc.).

  • This is our second identical ice maker and we love the ice it produces which is perfect for drinks. The ice is clear in 3/4" x 1/2" squares and remains frozen in the reservoir unlike most machines so it lasts much longer in drinks and does not waste water. Daily ice output should be plenty for a family and guests and it is perfectly sized for replacing a trash compactor in the kitchen. Great product when maintained properly with timely cleaning intervals.

  • I bought this as a gift for my husband, it does not come with a drain pump. We discovered this after installing the water line, and a day later found water seeping into my hardwood floors! You cannot tell by looking at the back of the machine that there is NO DRAIN PUMP. Now I’m having to try to find one and whirlpool says they are unavailable. So we not only have a missing kitchen cabinet but are also having to go through a floor renovation. It should DEFINITELY state that a drain pump is NOT included and offered as an extra or include it in the machine!!!!!

  • Worked great for a few months. Is a bit noisy but made great ice up to top of bin. Now it puts off alot of heat and barely makes enough ice for 2 cocktails. I use the cleaning stuff afresh and still barely makes any ice.

  • I really don’t recommend buying this product. After installation, the machine gaved me 1 full bucket of ice that it!. I called Whirlpool for the tech, he came I don’t remember how many times but the machine never worked. One Day I call to get an update, they said the warranty is over, they can offer me a discount on a new one. So I paid $1,500 plus taxes for one bucket of ice, it’s kind of expensive for ONE bucket of ice. I used to always purchase Whirlpool products, even in my rentals plus I manage a building material store who now sells appliances, guess what, I won’t be shy to explain customer service received from Whirlpool to my customers.

    Jeff Ouellet11/22/2024 03:56 AM

  • I would definitely NOT recommend this product. It was sold to me as an icemaker that can store up to 25lbs of ice but no where on the website does it say that it is an ice-maker ONLY. This means that the unit is not refrigerated and so does not keep the ice frozen. Instead, it makes the ice, stores it in a large bin, and then the ice slowly melts as it continuously makes more. It makes no sense. I tried contacting customer support and even their own associates didn't understand that it's only a storage bin with no refrigeration--when they finally realized what I was talking about they refused to let me exchange it for a different unit.

    GeeEss11/27/2023 02:58 PM

  • The unit works as advertised. It makes plenty of ice. Unfortunately, it also freezes up into large ice blocks if you aren't emptying it fairly regularly. Even though the unit is advertised as being either right or left opening, you can only order it right hand opening. Lowes will NOT switch the door for you when it is delivered, no matter what they tell you. I did it myself. I also had the unit installed by a plumber, to be sure the auxiliary water pump and all of the plumbing was hooked up properly. I run mine with the water filter installed. Overall, other than having to switch the door myself, we are happy to have ice now at our outdoor patio bar.

  • We have been looking for over a year for an 'Ideal' ice maker. After researching tons of choices, it boiled done to 'Clear Ice' technology from a reputable manufacturer. We also had a debate on where to install it and we finally figured out it would fit nicely between the washer and dryer in laundry room, which also had the water and drain connection behind washing machine (needed to order pump too). Whirlpool had this on sale, so we ordered it, installed it and are very happy with the operation, low noise level and excellent quality ice made.

  • This item was bought in Nov 2021, sold and shipped with a major pump missing. Ordered the pump, took 3 months to get in, Installed in February. worked for an hour then wouldn't make ice. Repair person came, and it needed a valve. Valve ordered, it took 6 weeks. Repair person came back, installed valve and it still wasn't working. Then the repair man figured out the problem. Now it works (Apr 2022). Thanks to the repairman. Very upset that our warranty is half over and we just got to start using the device.

    D Kurtz04/25/2022 12:13 AM

  • Ice maker has never made thick ice, as described in the specification. Ice that is being made is OK. When I first got this appliance, it quit working. I had a service team under contract with Whirlpool come out and they determined that it would need several parts that are out of stock. A few days later, the machine started working again on its own. Have not heard any word from the repair company since then about when or if they will return. Since the machine is working now, I will not have any repair work done. BUT, what I think should happen is Whirlpool should replace this machine with a new one that meets all specs and isn't so sketchy about working.

    Russ10/29/2021 07:50 AM

  • I bought a cheaper ice maker and was disappointed with it. We previously had a Whirlpool and had to have it serviced a couple of times (a few hundred dollars each time) but I knew it made great ice, even though you pay more for it up front. So, I ordered it again but this time I added a 3 year extended warranty. Just know that if you buy this ice maker, it makes great, clear ice and when it is working, it is most excellent. However, like most ice makers, it's not 'if' but 'when' it breaks down. Hence the extended warranty. I am happy with my ice maker and the security of knowing when it breaks, it will be fixed.

  • This is the second Whirlpool icemaker I have purchased ... the other one lasted for 7 years. While the previous one was great and quiet, that is NOT the case for this one. Every times it goes into a cycle ... which is WAY too often for the amount of ice II use, it sounds like there is a semi in the room. Installing it was more difficult that it needed to be because the lack of precise instructions was/is obvious. ONE sentence would have saved me two days ... i.e., remove connector if hooking up directly to water source! This is the second Whirlpool appliance I have replaced this year .. and it is the LAST!

    GeorgiaGirl709/11/2023 03:28 AM

  • I bought this to replace my old one that I had for 15 years. Great product!

    Fofo09/12/2024 02:25 AM

  • I bought this ice maker 12/31/20 for a Lakehouse that I was having built. Moved into it April 1st 2021 and machine ran great until July (only 3 months). I have had issues with a service company contracted through whirlpool about getting it fixed. Ive had appointments that they canceled on me the day of scheduled repair on 3 occasions. I have reached out to whirlpool about this issue and was told they would try to arrange a different company for repair and get back with me. It has been over a week and I am yet to hear back from whirlpool. To say that I am greatly disappointed in both product and service is an understatement!!! I give it 2 stars because it worked for 3 months.

  • I bought this ice maker back in May, and with the kitchen renovation going on, I'm just now able to use it. I wanted to have ice for Thanksgiving, so I hooked it up and put the drain hose in a 5-gallon bucket because our plumber canceled on us and couldn't come for another day. Now, I knew there would be some water, but that's an understatement. Within 24 hours, I dumped 10 gallons of water out. You would think since this is an ice maker that it would make ice and keep it frozen, and as you use it, it would just refill itself. Oh no, it continuously makes ice, and the ice that's inside slowly melts. This is such a waste of water. We don't always use the ice, so basically, we are wasting water just to keep ice in it. I wish I would have known this before buying; I would have saved a lot of money and just used refillable ice trays.

    AndreaE12/02/2024 05:10 AM

  • Had another like this which lasted for 9 years. This one is a year old tomorrow and problematic. I sent a comminique to Whirlpool customer service on May 23 and they stated they would get back with me ASAP...Nothing but crickets since. I will call them tomorrow!

    Southernborn06/01/2023 05:50 PM

  • I am happy with the appliance with the functionality. It is the most expensive appliance I have ever bought. If it was just for the original price, it would be expensive enough!! Be aware that you must install a drain with gravity fall or purchase a $450 pump to drain the melted ice. In all it cost me close to $3k which I think is extravagant. I do love ice but good grief this thing is an expensive luxury! It also makes a significant amount of noise when ice is being made i.e... filling water, draining water, and dropping ice in the reservoir.

    Jeanz06/21/2022 02:49 AM

  • Purchased my ice maker in october 2021, the machine did 1 bucket of ice and stopped, called service desk multiple time, tech came multiple time and still waiting for my machine to work, we are now 2 years later august 2023!!! TERRIBLE SERVICE. I ask for a replacement and they don’t want to give me a new machine. I wrote an email to « supposely a manager » explaining in details all the calls I made all the visit the tech did, manager never bother to answer me. BIG FAIL for me. For the price I paid ($2000) I just want an ice machine who works.

    Jeff Ouellet08/15/2023 12:27 PM

  • It's ok. It makes ice. Nosier than previous model. No frills. The ice scoop holder is cheap and placed in the ice bin. Not convenient or sanitary. Should be kept higher to easier to reach. - I dislike that it is only a 15" model instead of 18" Are 18" only offered in the KitchenAid for 1,0000.00 more? - leaves space where the other ice-make was. My biggest issue is the fact it cost 1995.00 and Whirlpool doesn't include a water filter. If nothing else, be like printer companies with a starter toner cartridge. If a filter is so important, why wouldn't you put one in from the start? When I went to register the product online, Whirlpool tried to sell filters. Is this a marketing gimmick?

  • whirlpool has not made purchase right ice machine purch on 12/12/22 from Home Depot in Conway AR delivered 12/20/22 has not worked at all and warranty service come has cancelled twice and manager of Home Depot is not following up on anything. Machine never made ice As of 12/28/22 still waiting on someone to verify correct installation. In my opinion there is no refrigerant in this machine never had any and if it did there is a leak. When you pay for a brand new machine it should be brand new and work.

  • Jace is an excellent technician. He is very knowledgeable about the product he works on. He will explain the problem in terms you can understand and then explains what needs to be done to correct it.

  • I had a Whirlpool 18-inch icemaker for almost 15 years and it was in the house when we bought it. It gave good service and nice ice so when it developed a leak that could not be fixed I decided to purchase another Whirlpool about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately they don't make an 18-inch wide model anymore and had to purchase the 15-inch model. The down side is the smaller size required some trim work for my cabinets. The door and ice storage unit is much smaller than my previous one which does not allow me to just dip by large glasses in the bin and the ice in back tends to stick together. I do like the light and it seems to keep ice well . I will have to use it longer to see how well it performs, ease of cleaning etc.

    Uncle Mike 195506/13/2019 11:55 AM

  • We have had this ice maker a week and it has been great! It is a little nosier than I expected, but that isn’t a problem. Just have to get used to the new sounds.
