• We bought this fridge 6.5 yrs ago and have had various small problems (squeaky door hinges, doors not sealing shut, led lights stop working) since the beginning until about a month ago when the freezer stopped working followed by the fridge a week later. The diagnosis is a leak in the coolant system and we have been told that this part is not replaceable and our fridge is totaled. The coolant system is under warranty however this model does not offer a replacement part and our request for a replacement fridge has not been approved, but rather 25% off a new fridge…is this reasonable? This has been so stressful!!!

• We aren’t happy with our KitchenAid panel ready refrigerator. We bought this to replace our 24 year old SubZero. The shelf layout is bad. You have to open both doors to pull out the bottom drawer. That drawer should be split like the two above it. There isn’t nearly the shelf space that we had with our SubZero. We had to purchase the Kitchenaid handles separately. They are hideous looking. We returned them to get something more aesthetically pleasing. It is very quiet and the ice maker works well.

• Cheap plastic interior, ice maker is useless. Very limited space. Had to replace my original purchased as it did not cool/freeze from day one. This was an additonal ordeal that took more 30 days to rectify. The local Kitchen Aid representative was absolutely useless. I purchased because I needed panel ready. It does look good with the panels but even my cabinet maker noted how sketchy the dimensions for the build were. Also had a repair guy look at the 1st faulty unit and he advised purchasing the warranty due to costly repairs for this model. Unless you have to have a panel ready refrigerator, I would advise you look elsewhere.

• I love Kitchenaid appliance - small appliance and major appliances. I just purchased a Kitchenaid induction cooktop (5 stars) for the same kitchen. In the recent past, I’ve purchased a duel fuel double oven range (a high quality machine) and a refrigerator/freezer for an apartment (which I like a lot, and it also has French doors). Now I have this very expensive, very large French door panel-ready refrigerator. This refrigerator is a HUGE disappointment. There were no photos of the interior available when we purchased it, so we had to rely on a floor model that was supposed to be very similar - it wasn’t. The available storage space is much less than anticipated (see photos). The produce compartments are miniscule. To open one of the produce doors you need to have both exterior doors open otherwise the drawer hits to door. The interior of the refrigerator is very shallow. Even the storage space on the insides of the doors is more limited than much smaller French door models we’ve had in other houses: I can’t even fit the butter container in the door because the holder is too narrow at the top and the container lid catches on it. I am also not a fan of the platinum interior - too dark. Were it to do all over again, I would select another refrigerator. I purchased this appliance because I have never been disappointed by Kitchenaid. The record is now broken.

• Common design flaw, LED lights not working in less than a year. Tech was able to fix it but needed to take the doors off to change the lights. Frozen food defrosting on the counter, expensive custom door panel on the ground (see photo). Note the cost of the LED light itself is over 60$ not including labor there are eight lights in this refrigerator, three were out in less than a year, 60$x8=480$ to replace your refrigerator lights. Product Manual states the lights will never need service. Buyer beware. This review will be posted on every home improvement sight I have visited during my 2 year remolding effort. I have all day and need to do something to deal with this frustrating mess.

• For spending over $9,000, I would have expected a flawless, high-end experience. This fridge has been deeply disappointing: • The right door has a squeaking, almost scraping sound when opened. • There is some kind of drip (condensation?) from the left-side LED light atop the top rack. • I’m not convinced the freezer stays cold enough. Ice cream sandwiches come out mushy. • The fridge shipped with an overabundance of overly-glued plastic covering the shelves and panels. Delivery crew couldn’t get it all off. After a month, we still haven’t been able to remove it all. • Icemaker seems far too slow and does not produce ice as quickly as we consume it.

• This is the worst fridge ever. Please do not buy any kitchen aid products. We have been having issues with the fridge since we bought it. The 1st issue was that the door was squeaky from day one. Since it was under warranty, they fixed it but it took months to get it fixed and get someone from customer service to schedule an appointment. After the 1st problem got fixed, 6 months later the door didn't close properly and now the fridge is outside of warranty. The fridge is only 3 years old. the company is charging thousands of dollars to sign up for warranty for a product that is already defective. THE WORST COMPANY EVER AND ALL THEIR PRODUCT IS AWFUL!!!

• We had this “built-in” refrigerator installed in our new house in 2017. It was part of a contractor package so our choices were limited. It worked well for the most part over the past 6 years, but had repeated problems with door alignment, loud hinge noise, and faulting magnetic seal; all of which defied repeated repair attempts. Now in 2023, the cooling system failed due to a coolant leak. The warranty says the parts (if available?) should be covered up to 12 years, but the labor would not. We are willing to repair it under those conditions, however, the certified technician says it cannot be repaired, the only option is to replace it. Whirlpool then only offered us a 20% discount on a new one, proposing a $7000 charge to replace a “high-end” appliance only 6 years old. Does this sound like the warranty is being interpreted correctly? Very disappointed.

• Despite the highly misleading description on their website ("this built-in stainless steel French door refrigerator will seamlessly integrate with your cabinetry"), this fridge is NOT built to allow the panels to integrate with your cabinets. I genuinely do not understand why anyone would purchase a built-in PANEL READY fridge that is designed to stand proud of your cabinetry and expose its industrial hinges on each side. There is no application for this panel ready fridge that would look professional and intentional. After spending 40 minutes on hold with KitchenAid, I was further transferred to the 'built-in appliance' department, where their rep spent another 30 minutes trying to convince me that it was indeed designed to be flush with the cabinets and that it was an installation problem. We agreed what flush meant - integrated at same level as cabinets. Having already explored our options with our cabinet maker and installation teams and further reviewing the installation documents, it was mind-blowing that she was insisting on information that was not correct. Finally, after being told repeatedly that it was an installation problem and being put on hold again, she returned to say 'yes, the panels on this model do sit proud of the adjacent cabinetry'. A huge waste of time and a customer service issue. My actual question was now that we have this totally disappointing fridge, where the custom panels will not integrate with the cabinets, can we replace the door to standard stainless steel since they do sit proud. No, you can not. I am so disappointed in this product and the misleading description on the KitchenAid website. I am further disappointed in the lack of customer service and time wasted speaking to their rep. I would avoid this fridge at all costs.

• Bought this as a replacement for an older failing Sub Zero. Unit works very nice but the shelves in the doors are very small. A lot of space is lost due to the width of the molded shelf mounts in the door and the mating ends on the individual shelves. The french door design also loses some storage space compared to a single refrigerator door.

• This is my second Built-in Kitchenaid Refrigerator and I am very disappointed. My last refrigerator could not be repaired because Kitchenaid stopped making parts for that model.Obvious planned obsolescence. This Kitchenaid appears to have incorporated cheaper materials including the case and shelves. The hinges squeak and we have had one of them replaced twice. Additionally the shelf space is woefully inadequate as are the shelves. The top shelf of the refrigerator immediately below the lights cannot accomodate tall containers as the space is constrained by the sloping roof of the interior. The ice on and off bar in the freezeer bucket is difficult to reach.

• We bought this KitchenAid refrigerator to replace our 30 year old SubZero. I could not be happier with this purchase. I have read some of the reviews that have one or two stars and I just had to stand up for this great machine. This fridge is beautiful inside, and although I had to get used to the new design, I find this unit just as ample as my old one. The temp is steady and exactly spot on. The freezer keeps my frozen items perfect. I just love the black stainless color and with four grandchildren you cannot beg it to show a fingerprint, and after the 30 year old SubZero the silence is golden. If you are looking for a built in, you should try this one a try.

• We have had our KitchenAid KBFN506 refrigerator now for two year and are about to spent $1000 to try and get it functioning properly. Since we bought it, the doors have not closed properly and three tech visits while it was under warranty could remedy the issue. Now we have a tech we selected who found the broken spring connector, so maybe after spending another $1000, the door will shut properly. I hate this refrigerator. It was very expensive but doesn’t work as well as the Samsung that my daughter bought for about 15% of what I paid. Avoid this refrigerator!!!

• I bought this several weeks ago and the refrigerator portion was not cooling at all, even though the freezer was working. The serviceman called a tech person from the manufacturer, who said a new valve that alternated the cooling from the refrigerator to the freezer would have to be ordered. The serviceman then found that something in the controls, underneath the top, just hadn't been plugged in at the factory. It doesn't seem too much to ask to have them run each refrigerator to make sure it is working properly before they ship it.

• I bought this refrigerator 1 month ago to replace another KitchenAid refrigerator of the same dimensions (side by side with water/ice dispenser in freezer door), which was 20 years old. We like the large storage in the refrigerator and convenience of a freezer drawer. One issue we have is there is not water dispenser in the refrigerator, which is no big deal as we have reverse osmosis faucet in the sink. The refrigerator looks great with the oak panel doors to match our cabinetry that were installed. The unit seems to be commercial grade, which should imply a long life.

• After our 30 year old Subzero finally died and we looked at both a Subzero and Kitchenaid. We were ready to spend $4000 more for the Subzero but in the showroom we liked the shelving arrangement in the Kitchenaid. So we paid $7500 and had the refrigerator delivered and installed. What a disappointment. The left door won't stay open when at full outward swing. Worse, the right door won't close all the way (it will stay open when at full outward swing). Right now there is a one inch gap between the door and the door frame, with cool air spilling out. Tomorrow an approved Kitchenaid technician is coming and we hope he can fix both doors. If that can't be done I want a refund so I can buy a subzero. What worries me the most is that if Kitchenaid quality control allowed this fridge to leave the factory with these obvious and visible defects, what kind of quality control can I expect from the "innards" of this machine.

• We purchased this model a little over two years ago and thankfully, we purchased an extended warranty. We have nearly 10 service calls due to faulty doors. The springs on both doors keep popping and the doors do not close properly. Each time the technician comes out to assess the problem, he has to order parts and then he has to make an additional appointment to come and install the new parts. After the problems are fixed, they occur again within a short period of time. I truly regret this purchase and at this point, I cannot believe that KitchenAid has not offered to replace this for us. The numerous service calls and parts ordered under this warranty have to be noticed by somebody at KitchenAid. We spent almost 10k on this lemon and it was a waste. If you are considering this fridge, please keep shopping.

• This is not a true “built-in” refrigerator. Cost the same as other high end built-ins but sticks out past the cabinet so door can open - does not have the swing out hinges. Paid way too much for such a oversight.

• Our $9000 Kitchen aid built in fridge is 10 years old and required $1,500 in repairs for a faulty control board. The original control board is discontinued (my guess is because they found that it was faulty) and it will now cost even more for the repair man to rebuild the current board. I am not sure why this appliance costs so much when there is no noticeable difference between this fridge and our last homes fridge (except for the fact that it is built in) and clearly you are not paying for quality. For this price I expect better quality control and longer lasting products. When we replace this fridge I will definitely buy another brand. Apparently the fridge has had lots of previous maintenance as well. The company told us that they have been out to our house with the previous owners multiple times. Its shocking to me that a $8,0000-$9,000 appliance could require so much maintenance in the first ten years of its life.

• This is the 3rd Kitchenaid built in refrigerator I have purchased for my current residence. The first 2 units quit working with repair parts no longer available. The second one lasted 14 years and 1 month. Hopefully this one will last longer, or at least have repair parts available. I am disappointed that with the other 2 units, I could open the door and easily see the inside temperature. With the new model, I can only push a button and see what the temperature should be, not what it actually is. Not very impressive for a $10,000 refrigerator.

• I bought this refrigerator a month ago, and I still can not figure out how to determine the internal temperature of the refrigerator. The manual doesn't specify this information and the sales reps (Howard's) were no help at all. The kitchenaid website also was not helpful in trying to solve, and calling during the posted service hours left my call unanswered. Really??! Have to say that I am a bit disappointed.

• Overall a nice fridge we were pleased with - until about 1 year into using it. Lighting is a HUGE problem - the LED lights that according to the user manual should never need replacement and are VERY expensive keep failing. Started with a couple lights, then 6 incl. freezer compartment got replaced them with warranty service (OEM parts), incl. control boards, then new ones failed again, and as of today ZERO lights are working. Lots of reports about lighting problems out there, and no good fix offered by Kitchenaid. Not happy about now using a flashlight to find stuff in a $7K+ fridge ...

• I PURCHASED THIS MODEL AND I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS REFRIGERATOR FROM DAY ONE. ON NOVEMBER 18TH 2018 I CALLED A SERVICE REPAIR TECHNICIAN FOR THE FILTER AND THEY ORDERED PARTS FOR THE HINGES ON THE DOORS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS BANGING ON THE DOORS WITH A HAMMER. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND NO KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO REPAIR THIS KIND OF REFRIGERATOR. NOT TO MENTION I PAID $8500.00 FOR THIS PRODUCT. I EXPERIENCED PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM WITH THIS REFRIGERATOR. IT SHUTS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY, NEVER FIXED THIS PROBLEM, NOW THE DOORS WON'T CLOSE AND THEY CAN NOT LOCATE THE PARTS FOR THIS REPAIR. SPOKE TO AVERY, HE ADVISED THAT IT IS THE HOMEOWNERS RESPONSIBILITY IF THE FOOD IN THE REFRIGERATOR IS SPOILED OR PERISHES. I ASKED FOR A REPLACEMENT BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A REFRIGERATOR FOR MONTHS HE SAID THAT THIS IS NOT A GOOD REASON TO REPLACE REFRIGERATOR. I CALLED AGAIN TODAY WAS GETTING THE SHUFFLE AROUND SPOKE TO TERESA, AND WAS ON HOLD FOR 1 HOUR SPOKE TO AVERY WAS ON HOLD FOR 30 MINUTES AND HE HUNG UP THE PHONE JUST TO FOLLOW UP TO SEE IF PARTS WERE LOCATED STILL NOTHING I SPOKE TO MICHAEL IN THE SPECIALTY DEPARTMENT HE SAID I HAVE TO GIVE THEM 6 DAYS TO LOCATE PART, IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS. THEY WILL NOT LET ME SPEAK WITH SUPERVISOR. THE WORST SERVICE !!!!
