• I purchased this freezer as part of a kitchen remodel project that included a refrigerator, range, microwave and dishwasher - all Whirlpool products. Due an error on the part of Grand Appliance, the ice maker for the freezer was not installed at the factory. When it was finally installed it did not work properly and is scheduled for replacement "some time in September". The unit was delivered along with all the other appliances on the 29th of July and still no ice maker replacement. As you can see from the picture, the ice maker is half full of frozen water. I am very disappointed in Whirlpool.

• My wife and I recently bought a house and purchased the refrigerator and freezer sidekick combo. Within the first year the refrigerator had to be repaired 2x. Here we are now at year 2.5 and my freezer has now stopped working and the part needed to repair it is discontinued. Luckily a few months back I purchased an extended warranty because the insurance company called me last week to let me know that I am being given about half the value of my freezer back and that I am going to need to purchase a new freezer. We have been very displeased with the Whirlpool sidekicks that we purchased 2.5 years ago to say the least.

• Our Sidekick fridge was manufactured in April of 2021. In October of 2022 the fridge stopped cooling. The fan blew but it was not getting cold. At that point we had it repaired by a Whirlpool repair company. Fast forward to this week when it stopped getting cold again. The estimate to repair the fridge is $2200, well over the price of a new fridge. Given that a fridge should last more than a few years, we will not purchase this fridge or a Whirlpool appliance again after this experience. We are now left to sell our matching freezer and redo a portion of our fridge to accommodate a different fridge/freezer. So disappointed.

• This freezer replaces a similar 12 year old Whirlpool freezer. I like this one but wish that it had more door storage shelves - it only came with four (my other one had eight). Also, I wish I would have had the option to order it with an auto ice maker. I found one on Amazon for about $100 and will hopefully be able to install it myself.

• We bought the freezer a few months ago and had it installed a few weeks ago. So we have only been using it a few weeks. So far we are happy with it, but we can’t really comment on reliability or durability until a few months and years into it. One thing I can ssay is that it did not come with an ice maker, which seemed odd to me since it is a freezer, so we purchased the ice maker separately. We had originally chosen a different side by side manufacturer, but due to chain supply delays it was unavailable, so settled for this one. The one we had chosen, had an ice maker and other nice feature this one does not. We will see how it works for us.

• I bought this along with the matching All-Fridge and trim kit. This system creates a very high-end look at a reasonable price. Overall, it's a great value.

• I strongly suggest not purchasing this product. We purchased in 2020 and by this year both are starting to not work. The refrigerator stopped cooling and experienced over temp alerts starting 6 months ago. Just this week the same alert started on our freezer. I’m sure it will go bad too. We had to buy another refrigerator and keep it in our garage to not lose all our food. When I call customer service I am told that nothing can be done because it is outside of the 12 month warranty. If I am paying thousands of dollars for a refrigerator and freezer they should last longer than 3 years. They are built into our cabinets so it is a big deal that they no longer work and we cannot just replace them with any model. I agree with the comments that these units may be lemons. They clearly have issues impacting many customers. If a car had an issue like this they would issue a recall and repair at no cost. Whirlpool should stand by its products and support its customers. I will be sure to share this experience with all my contacts.

• I bought this , it arrived with a defective gasket around the door and the top of door was misshaped. foam was coming out of top screw heads and we could see inside gasket area .they claim no service provider in our 500,000 population city. first thing they offered was 200$ off. this is new and 1700$ freezer i want a proper non defective freezer not a scratch and dent price ! they need to send a new door. crap service, on hold 45 minutes. the freezer door is exactly the same as the fridge door with the butter door flap. what a waste of space set up for a freezer. had an awesome Amana , kenmore before this.also we could get live person service with the other companies.

• It keeps thing cold and looks nice. It fits in my custom designed kitchen. It replaced a previous Whirlpool that leaked constantly and continually had a large amount of ice accumulating below the bottom rack. Nothing else fit in the kitchen without paying thousands to have cabinets and counter redesigned to fit new appliance. The new configuration is NOT good. Fewer shelves on the door. I liked the shelves to hold butter, boxes and plastic containers of vegetables. You added a bin and removed a shelf. Bins are terrible. I am constantly shuffling things to find what I want. I like things neat and stacked not thrown in bins. We are a family of chefs (graduated from culinary school) .

• 12 people in neighborhood have the side kick units. All 12 have major problems. Do not buy these units. I pray for a class action law suit on these units. RUN from these units!!!

• I bought this from Appliance Depot in Minnesota. They were great until we needed service on our oven. The fridge had some drain line that released a horrible smell that I did clean and resolve that particular issue. Now it doesn't work. I'm guessing a coolant leak so the fridge is toast. I hope Whirlpool stands by their products and replaces our fridge. Unacceptable.

• Do not buy this freezer, it will die, probably within 2 years, and you will lose all the food in it. I just lost a freezer full of meat for my family of 7. I bought what I thought was a good quality freezer, hoping to avoid problems like this. Also, the parts to repair or fix the problem are pretty much all on back order Notice the only good reviews are incentivized, or from people who haven’t had their freezers for very long. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON WHIRLPOOL UNTIL THEY FIX THEIR DESIGN PROBLEMS!!!!!

• I purchased a home that was 6 months old with this unit that was put in when built. First the fridge went out within 6 months and had to replace the compressor. Then shortly after the freezer went out and compressor is on back order. Finally got a new compressor after 6 weeks and straight out of the box it was bad. Been out of a freezer for 8 weeks now and due to the cabinets being built specifically for this unit I am now looking for something with the same dimensions….of course whirlpool changes sizes…just read the other reviews, they’re all true.

• Bought 5/2019. Failed 8/2020. Repaired under extended warranty. FAILED AGAIN 8/2021. Deemed irreparable 3/2022. Whirlpool wants $650 + 250 extended Warranty to replace it... sealed system malfunction. I lost 2 freezers of food. Not happy...

• A follow up to my husbands (BVOH) review of a week ago (as they won't let the same person post twice or revise a recent review): Given the other recent poor reviews and the attempt by CA social care to reach out to those people, I had expected that someone from customer service might try reach out. Instead, the response from customer service was a form response saying "Your concerns will be documented in an appropriate manner." I'm not sure what that means, but it surely doesn't help, especially as I already am having a service call today to fix the new freezer that I just bought.

• Within 3 years of service, my upright freezer stopped working. The original price was approximately $1500. All of the freon had leaked out, and the repair cost was estimated to be near the cost of purchasing a new appliance. Whirlpool customer service offered me a 15% discount on a new appliance. Why would I ever purchase a Whirlpool product again? Worse yet, now I need to replace the side by side refrigerator to make the kitchen look right. Ridiculous. Whirlpool seems to be fine with disposable appliances.

• This is our second whirlpool Sidekick. The last one was 18 years old. The refrigerator went out and needed new ones that matched. So far both are working very well.

• I’ve now went through 3 freezers in 5 years from Whirlpool and my 4th one is about to quit on me. Problem is it’s the only brand my local appliance store buys. Also can’t get service where we live.

• This refrigerator and freezer set came with our newly built DR Horton home. It was delivered in 2020. The freezer door had to be replaced within one year because of the faulty seal; the next year there were issues with the freon; this year it is the refrigerator that is repeatedly frosting over and unable to maintain balanced temperatures. At this point we are tired of throwing bad money after good. No issues with Home Depot. Just trying to forewarn others about this model and brand.

• I bought this unit and its refrigerator mate 9/16/19 and in August 2020 the fridge started heating up. Repair guy came out and found hole in evaporator coil and ordered replacement part. 2 weeks later part was installed and after trouble shooting a mystery noise the new part created for 10 weeks (5 service visits) the fridge is now back in my kitchen working properly. Noise was caused by over charging with refrigerant because door placard was showing wrong charge weight. Now on 11/5/20 the freezer has started to hold only at 20F . Scheduled service call, out of warranty at this time, and thought another evaporator coil needed replaced. The day the service guy shows up (11/10/20) open the door before he gets there and unit has pulled down to -5F (Have thermometer in it now). Service guy doesn't know at this time what the issue is. So I have to put nothing in it until it heats up again or throw way a bunch of food again. I'm stuck with these units because like many others my kitchen was built around them. Waiting to open your freezer door and see the temp setting at 20F is no way to live.

• Bought over 10 months ago and has never worked. Been waiting for parts to repair that are backordered. It will be out of warranty by the time it gets fixed. I’d run any from this junk!

• Looks great, but they certainly aren't built to last more than 3 years! Had problems with first set, and because their sizing does not conform to other makes and models we purchased another set, even though we only needed a fridge, that is, Whirlpool changed their model so they didn't match and was forced to purchase the freezer. Now only 3 years later, the compressor has died and with parts and labor doesn't make sense to fix. STAY AWAY!

• Had a third party repair company diagnose it no longer freezing, issue is refrigerant leak. Cost would be a minimum of $600 to repair if the compressor is ok, otherwise over $1100. Tried to get Whirlpool customer service to get a quote, but would require a $160 service call although we already know the issue. (Compared to $85 for the repair company I called) Appliances should last longer than this. Where has the quality control gone?

• Disappointed in the modifications to both 30" Sidekick freezer and fridge vs the older model from 2004 or there about. The older model was well made with split adjustable shelves almost the length of the door for both freezer and fridge. Love the glass shelves and the fact that this still has the split adjustable sheves, but there are fewer. That flat wire box holder at the bottom of the freezer door is not useful to us yet because we are not a frozen pizza family. Have to figure out another use. This product was far superior to others in the same size range before in design and reliability and is now average with poor ratings for reliability. Hope Whirlpool will listen to your former customers.
