30-Inch 4-Element Electric Downdraft Slide-In Range

• This is a very good range with many features that were a pleasant surprise. The wide viewing angle of the front glass is very nice and my wife is ready to use the convection oven. It also comes with an assortment of racks and water tray accessory. We followed the instructions on the vent piping and the fan suction is excellent. It is very strong on high speed, low speed is adequate for most cooking. Like others, we had little choice on the replacement of our downdraft JennAir.The install can be challenging, dependent on what you are replacing I suppose. It is about what I was expecting though due to the type of range and the feature of the downdraft so I was not surprised. If I was replacing a KitchenAid, it may have been easier. The downdraft piping can be installed low on the rear wall or in the floor near the back wall. You'll need about 4.5" from either side of a 30"w opening for sliding the new range in over the blower and the pipe whether in the floor or wall. My old range blower and pipe were to the right side but further towards the front and so we had to move the hole and pipe to the rear. I researched for details before purchase but was unable to find anything. Attached is a photo of the floor template. Notice the specifics on blower mounting and downdraft hole location. If done per this template, the new range will just slide right in at the end. You'll also need to make note of your electrical plug location. I had to relocate ours. Initially, the range stuck out about 4.5 inches. This was mostly the control panel but my wife wanted it further in so I cut 2" from the granite countertop. There was enough overhang in the rear (about 3") that I did not need to modify the inside of cabinet. Note that the trim kit does not exend befond the front control panel. This is something we elected to live with and is acceptable if you have a good cut in your countertop. We built a framework from PVC and covered in 2 mil plastic to keep the dust down. Also had a shopvac (with dustbag) running while cutting to suck up the dust. We covered the inside cabinets with plastic as well and put plenty of towels on the floor to absorb water. Used a spray bottle to keep water in the path while cutting. Before cutting, I turned off the breaker and verified power was off. It was a lengthy project but worth it. Take your time, measure twice and you should be ok if you are handy. I would not trust this install with just anyone though. We did notice a few stains (from cooked on food/grease) in the glass top the first week of cooking and we could not get them out. We were disappointed but ordered the cleaning kit specified in the owners manual. The stains came out no problem so we are very pleased. There was a strong smell from the oven the first few times we used it. It faded and then went away after about 1.5 weeks.

• Run as far away from this range and the Kitchen Aid brand as you can! I would not wish this appliance or dealing with this company to my worst enemy. We received a range that was brand new and does not work. Kitchen Aid is refusing a replacement. They sent a technician out 24 hours after our range had been delivered and has never been used. The technician was unable to fix the range and left physical damage and scratches to the appliance. Kitchen Aid does not care about their customers and we are now left without any appliance to cook with.

• I purchased the brand new range which was delivered a month ago- in June. On arrival, the top exhaust fun on the range did not work. I immediately notified the co about the fun not working. Few days later, I noticed rust spots all over the metal parts on the top frame surrounding the knobs and the heat plate. I am after 3 visits from subcontractors - very unprofessional services who could not diagnose the problem or told me they don’t have a needed part. A one month of waiting, and both issues are still not fixed. Given the rust spots everywhere on the frame, I request a full refund or another unit. Terrible experience thus far.

• I purchased a new Kitchen-aid stove KSEG950ESS, replacing a Jenn-air stove which was in service for approximately 28 years. This was for a rental property in which a young family, man and wife with three young boys and a nanny reside in Palo Alto, CA. On Jan 20th, 2019 the stove stopped working. As the stove was under a 1 year warranty we contacted our local sales person. As a result, there were three attempts to repair the stove by a Kitchen aid contractor. all three failed. This took 3 weeks. At this point I realized that either the repair team was incompetent or the stove had serious problems. After numerous attempts, I reached out to Kitchen-aid and they checked inventory and arranged to have a new replacement stove sent and installed at no cost. Great, I thought. An appointment and delivery time was scheduled for February 28th. On The day of the scheduled delivery I checked my E-mail to confirm we were on track and discovered the delivery had been cancelled. I called the shipping/installation company and they indicated that someone should have notified us of the cancellation. I asked. "Why was it cancelled." They said the stove was never delivered to them. I contacted Kitchen aid and Whirlpool replacements to find out when we would possibly be receiving a stove. All operators said they had no inventory and had no idea when they would be able to replace the stove. I contacted the company that originally sold us the stove and asked if they had a KSEG 950ESS in their inventory. They said no aand they could check up-coming inventory from their end. The consensus was that Kitchen-aid was having problems at the factory and they would not be receiving stoves until mid April. At this point I was obliged to have a working stove in place for my tenants. I decided to buy a new stove at our local Airport Appliance- any stove as long as it fit, was working and could be delivered on short notice. By chance, even though we were told over the phone that they had no inventory, I noticed a Jenn-air floor model, slightly damaged but working and opted for that. It was one of only two downdraft stoves on the market that fit our application.The Kitchen-aid KSEG 950ESS ( which failed after 7 months of service) and the Jenn-air JES1750FS (floor model). While we were at Airport appliance (our local supplier), I called whirlpool and the sales manager, spoke with them on my phone to facilitate the transaction. We were given an even exchange by Airport appliance. After two delivery attempts and two cancellations by Airport appliance we still do not have a stove. It is currently scheduled for delivery on March 9th. But I wouldn't bet on it. In conclusion, I have written 3 letters to Kitchen aid customer service detailing this experience and to date have had no response.

• Unit replaced a 40 year old Jenn-Air. Downdraft works well. Convection cooking, steam cooking, bake, and burners give even fast cooking. Expensive, but worth it Customer service is great. Was missing a steam tray and agent had it shipped out as soon as I called. Customer service is amazing. Called number and was quickly connected to a real person who resolved the problem quickly. Inside of oven is huge compared to my old oven. Racks slide easily. Lots of improvements from 40 years ago.

• Its a little early to review, but so far so good. The install was the issue. The plug didn't fit and the electrician was frustrated with the support or lack there of with Kitchenaid. I have spent more hours on the phone than I can count. No one really knows what to advise when I called the tech line about the plug issue. There is not an outlet made that will be this exact shape. Therefore you will have to shove this plug into it even though the ground is shaped differently. It is so frustrating. I just hope it doesn't cause an issue.

• The Pros: The stove (visual design) makes a smart statement in my kitchen.The surface burners are quick to heat and HOT. The downdraft feature works rather well. Also, the oven racks are sturdy and seem easy to clean.. The Cons: The burner controls are VERY difficult to read with overhead lighting. The burners are HOT and extreme care must be taken when cooking on the stove top. It is a job to clean (multiple surfaces needing different cleaners abut one another: solid black glass cook top -shows EVERY little spatter-, stainless steel trim, glass panel over controls). The control panel is extremely sensitive! I hope CANCEL is not easily worn out.

• When you have to replace a 1990's Jen Air with downdraft, your choices are limited, so we purchased this stove less than a year ago. It is terrible... where do I start Cooking surfaces are very hard to control, temperature is hard to adjust and I often burn things and I have been cooking for over 30 years The Aqua Lift Self Clean is a joke and the grills are impossible to clean. Walls remain a mess and you can't use commercial cleaners or they say it will void the warranty. I am discouraged that I will never have a clean stove ever again. I had a Kitchen Aid 6 burner gas stove at my previous house, and when we sold the house last year, it was as clean as the day we bought it in 2010. Grills were easy to clean and the self cleaning was A1 but this model is crap. My stove LED reader has always been crooked, from left to right, one side higher than the other. And all that for more than 3,000$ Awful purchase, should have spent more on putting in a hutch and transfer to gas.

• Its amazing than in the 21st century they sell an stove without a self cleaning oven. For the first time in my life I have to spend time and great amount of effort cleaning the oven. I would return the stove if I could. Their claim that it has a great new system is bogus, NO OVEN CLEANING, BE AWARE!!!! Sooo disappointed, called Customer Service and all I could get is "Unfortunately.....the new system does not clean the walls not the top wall, and unfortunately the new system will only clean the bottom of the oven if its lightly dirty. Well good luck trying to use your oven without getting anything on the walls or the top. Awful experience

• Picked this up just shy of a year ago. The user interface for the oven controls has decided to go haywire error code F2E0, this is a $3K+ oven that was VERY carefully installed and handled from the wharehouse to my home. I am so absolutely beyond frustrated with supposedly “high end” technologically advanced appliances. Seriously if you can’t make it work why bother producing it. Give me stupid appliances that work any day over temperamental “smart” pretty trash. If I wouldn’t have had to completely remodel my kitchen to avoid using one of two options for a down draft range I would have chosen something cheaper and practically speaking far superior. When it works it’s great.

• Our dishwasher had to be replaced so we went with kitchenaid. We are extremely happy with it. So after our nearly 30 year old jenn air needed replacing, i opted to go with kitchenaid. We chose a glass top. This has been one of the most costly mistakes we have made. The bottom right eye is buult to reach extreme temperatures. Spots have came up on the glass top which are burnt into the glass. KITCHENAID WILL NOT REPAIR. WE ARE HEARING IT IS COSMETIC. They are actually saying that after paying nearly $4,000 they will not stand behind their product. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. Go with jenn air.

• I have now had this about a month, and there are some problems. The markings to show which burner is which have come off. The timer only beeps once. The oven temperature does not seem to be hot enough. The touch buttons on top turn on too easily. I have read that the steam cleaning of the oven is not effective. This is major if it is true.

• With the touch screen control panel , when you lean over to stir pots on the back burners or if you're cleaning your body will reset the oven and clock every time. This range scratches VERY easily. I can't sit any pans out of the oven on the stove top as it will scratch. I have had to have a heating element replaced. This stove which is very pricey came with one of the eyes not functioning. I do love how the oven cooks so even and quickly.

• I bought the kitchenaid downdraft electric oven to replace a Jenn Air that I had. It was a very expensive range and I am very disappointed in the product! The Aqua Lift technology for self cleaning is worthless, it doesn't remove anything. I had a fairly inexpensive range in my last home and it's self cleaning feature worked much better. The Kitchenaid scratches very, very easily and is not durable enough for cooking with high quality cookware and normal use! Tonight I noticed something had spilled over at some point and ran down to the oven door, when I wiped it off the clear coat on the stainless door peeled off!! This range is very, very poor quality for the big price tag it carries!!! I will NEVER invest in a Kitchenaid product again!!

• I cook a lot and needed a reliable stove/oven so I went with the well known brand Kitchen Aid. I also picked this brand as it makes a downdraft stove which I believe is only made by 2 companies. The stove top showed scratches immediately, and stains. The burners run on either low or crazy hot so simmer or just heating things up is difficult.

• This range does nothing but fall apart. Right out of the box the control panel was malfunctioning and needed replacement. This meant my family was without a working range for a month. Then, the cooling fan was "spinning too slowly". This repair was out of warranty and took another month. Then, the down draft rubber boot completely feel apart. The oven, cook top, and down draft do not work well at all. If you need help be prepared for a 1 hour hold time. Very disappointed for a $3000 dollar range. Even when the range is functioning it is a poor performing product. Would not recommend this product! I regret this purchase.

• Very nice downdraft. We didn't have much choice due to having to replace an older Jenn Air. Fitting the Kitchen Aid where the old stove sat was a nightmare and now I have to get new cabinets because the blower of the kitchen aid does not fit in the space allowed and where the pipe from the floor going to the outside is located! This turned out to be a whole kitchen renovation, when we should have been able to slide it in. Poor design on the blower part. Aside from that, I am pleased with the stove. Adavice.... don't buy a house with a down draft stove! Our stove is backed up to an interior wall and there is no way to put a hood system.

• It looks very impressive and has a lot of nice functions. For the price I was hoping it would work better though. The 3 issues I have with it are: 1. It takes 25-30 minutes to preheat. Even when the temperature says its at 400, its really only at 300-350. 2. The outside of the door gets really hot. I have small children so I keep a close eye on them when they are in the kitchen 3. It smells. We have had it for about 2 months and there is still a smell of burning plastic and dust. The manual says this is normal and it should go away in time. Overall it looks like a really nice oven, but for the price it should work better.

• Wonderful range. Needed to accommodate a complicated downdraft set-up and this range was the perfect solution. Replaced a 21 year old range and has great new features. Love the adjustable size burners and the large oven size. Easy to use and clean.

• Our situation called for an electric downdraft range, and the KitchenAid range came through beautifully. It's beautiful, and we also love the functionality. It's loaded with features we've never had before. I might have to try some new dishes. The downdraft is amazing. It truly vents the smoke and odor and down and out. The amount of air it moves it amazing. Installation was easy and straight forward. Great product. Only negative I can mention is that there is a chemical smell when the oven is heating up. Maybe it's the "newness" breaking in; not sure yet.

• When it became time to retire our 40 plus year old downdraft range, we found this Kitchen Aid Downdraft Slide-In Range and immediately settled on this one. The controls move smoothly. The cooktop heats up quickly. The oven cooks evenly. The unit doesn’t heat up the room like the old one did. We have just had it about a month (still have to take the blue protective wrap off of the bottom panel-and will be updating the entire kitchen soon) but look forward to many years of use!

• It took 10 weeks for delivery. Paid for installation. Delivery guys came 7 hours late, at night, and would not install. I hired a contractor to install -- only to discover Kitchenaid delivered a range with a completely cracked cook top. I called Kitchenaid to complain, they "set up a repair" for me with a local business. The business has no record of ever receiving a call from Kitchenaid and is unaware of my issues. I've already spent literally FOUR HOURS on hold in two earlier calls with Kitchenaid. I am fed up. Also-- it's not even really a slide in. It's a regular, free-standing range. So I had to pay for carpentry work only to discover the machine was broken.

• Like many of the previous reviews I was in search of a replacement for my JenAir downdraft oven. With only a few options I opted for the KitchenAid. I just remodeled and bought all new KitchenAid products to replace other brands that I enjoyed. I have to say I am completely happy with all of them!!! This downdraft oven works wonderfully and it is very attractive. I was worried about oven top scratching like some bad reviews said but have had no trouble and take care of it just like my last glass top. The stainless steal leaves very few water spots or fingerprints. I wish KitchenAid did give more details on how to use some of the functions on the oven. Installation was a concern so I made sure I bought the appliance from a store that had experience with downdraft installation. If you try to buy from some stores they will not install it. It does have vent in the back that sticks up if you install in an island like I did. My last oven was flatter but have grown used to it and the edges around the stove. My last glass top was flush over the counters. I am so happy I chose this oven and the other appliances that matches.
