  • Cooktop works well with no mechanical issues. However, if you cannot read the print on the cooktop face (where the dials attach), it is difficult to use as designed. Writing can only be viewed if you are looking at an angle. Call KitchenAid and was informed that is by design.

  • The burners work well but there are several significant negatives: 1) Stainless steel surface easily scratchable. 2) The H,M, L markings on the knobs are barely visible as if they are already faded from aging. My stovetop is only 1-month old. 3) There are black streaks formed on 1 of the silver burner rings that cannot be cleaned up. 4) There are white spots on the black grids that cannot be removed.

  • Our 24” Thermador wall oven is failing, and KitchenAid is one of the few companies that still makes a 24” oven. But, our Thermador cooktop failed first. Because we thought we eventually wanted the KitchenAid oven, we decided to purchase a KitchenAid cooktop and downdraft exhaust fan. Since we were replacing a Thermador cooktop, we purchased the best KitchenAid residential cooktop available, the KCGS956ESS gas cooktop and the powerful KXD4636YSS downdraft exhaust fan. The cooktop and downdraft exhaust fan have functioned as expected. But cosmetically, the KitchenAid cooktop has been very disappointing. And, the appearance of the cooktop is the first impression visitors to our home experience. The five cooktop burner control knobs mounted along the front of the cooktop are all misaligned. The misalignment also causes the backlit portion of the control knobs to have shadows in them, giving a flawed appearance. But, the most frustrating flaw is the faint, illegible markings on the cooktop to identify the positioning of the control knobs. Based on the black easy to read KitchenAid logo on the downdraft exhaust fan, the control knob markings on the cooktop should have also been black. The markings on our cooktop appear to be light etchings in the stainless steel, with very little contrast from the stainless steel, making them very difficult to see without reading glasses or a magnifying glass. We are disappointed that this cooktop made it through quality control at KitchenAid, if there is any. We have filed a complaint with our seller, but this issue has not been resolved yet. We gave the cooktop a 3-star rating, only because it does function as a stove. Otherwise, it’s appearance flaws don’t warrant this high of a rating, considering it is the most expensive residential cooktop available from KitchenAid. We will now look for another manufacturer for our 24” wall oven.

  • Cannot read the knob settings, requested service and they will not replace the unit. There’s no way you can read the knob settings, defective unit. Choose a different model or different brand. Unit I received is not like the image on website.

  • I love All my Kitchenaid anppliances except this one.. we remodeled our kitchen with All kitchen aid and I would recommend everything except KCGS956ESS Cooktop. The letters that show the temperature settings are impossible to see. This is by design so there is little you can do desired buying cheap 3rd party stickers.

  • Just got this installed and like it quite a bit. I would suggest a design change though, swap the 2 left burners from front to back so the big one doesn't heat up the controls area. I like that this is made in the USA but was disappointed to see the sticker about that was placed over a small scratch in the finish, so it wouldn't be seen by Quality Control? - Made on line 62 date 9/29/2020 (knocked 2 stars off Quality for that). Also like others have mentioned, it's difficult to see the control labels due to the way it's etched/printed in a color that is almost identical to the stainless. (knocked 1 star design for this and the left burner positions

  • I was skeptical but the wife really wanted to switch from an electric cooktop to this Kitchenaid gas cooktop. What an incredible difference immediately. No more inconsistent heat with sauces boiling over. It has a very large cooling area and the control knobs are well placed and have a solid professional feel. They light up too. I'm a believer now It also immediately changed the look of the kitchen into something to be proud of.

  • Very very difficult to clean the 20,000 BTU Professional Dual Ring Burner and Simmer Burner. If milk or tea spills over there is no way to clean it!! I just bought it a week back and there is all the black burnt stuff on the inside of the burner's 4 holes and I can not clean it!! I contacted customer service to schedule a service call but they said they can not help us in scheduling a call. I have to pay for the service call!! Just a week old and they should be able to help us.This is how the design is and they can not help!!!! Isn't this ridiculous??? I am attaching a picture of the burner.

  • If you intend to cook with multiple pots at the same time you will be disappointed that KitchenAid didn't take this into consideration with the spacing between burners. When using a large pan on front burners you run the risk of the knobs getting hot under the pan. Knobs are opposite on each side for high/low settings which is confusing. Really poor design!

  • Kathy and I bought this cooktop for our kitchen remodeling project because it looked good and we thought it would be a nice addition to our new kitchen. We have been very pleased with the cooktop. The various burners offer ample opportunities for different cooking needs from preparing delicate sauces to cooking stir fry dishes to bringing our large pressure canner up to the pressure to process the abundance from our garden and fishing trips. The cooktop is easy to clean and I really like that the cast iron grates have non-marking feet on the to keep from scratching the stainless steel. I also appreciate the lights under the burner knobs that remind me that the burner is on. The only improvement I can identify would be to improve the contrast of the markings on the burner knobs. They are difficult to read - it's only a problem until you get familiar with the cooktop.

  • was tired of electric cook tops. I love to cook and hated the heat up time. I splurged and bought the 36" gas Kitchen Aid cook top and love love it !! it heats quickly and is super easy to clean . It is the star of my kitchen remodel !!!

  • I just started installing this unit and noticed that I can't see the markings for the controls. I can only see them at a certain angle and lighting. Very faint.

  • Do't buy the cooktop for the griddle. We tried it once, but it is so small, not worth the effort, but otherwise, the cooktop is great. It produces nice strong burner BTUs and also low levels good for melting and simmering. We do have, as others have noted, a bit on tight space with all 5 burners having pots and the pots crowd..but we do not do that too often. The lit rings about the knobs that light up are loose, and may need to contact the vendor to see how we can glue it back so it does not move around. the ring light is aesthetics but for as much as we paid, the ring should not be loose. I would also consider knobs in the front or side vs. in the front.

  • Thought this cooktop would be a beautiful addition to our remodeled kitchen.we have used it for six months. My husband likes the fast start and the amount of pressure it puts out. However, the brushed metal surface is very difficult to clean. Paper towels and cloths get caught on the rough stainless steel. Two of the burners only come apart with a screwdriver to be able to clean under them. The griddle is not of good quality.Had I known these issues I wound not have purchased it.

Cooktop review not happy04/20/2025 03:36 AM

  • Just installed so only used a couple times. Like the raised grill look also all the burner options like turbo, 3 types of simmer and the melt. Burners on high heat like they should. Knobs feel nice and love they light up when on. Only negative is the stainless steel in all burner area is too rough. Needs to be polished more with a smoother finish for wiping and cleaning. I am going to attempt to do this. Will review in a few months for updates....

  • I have had an electric stove for 20+ years and when we decided on a full kitchen remodel I knew I wanted to go with gas. Shopped for different brands of cooktops and decided on KA. I love the cooktop. Fairly easy to clean. My only wish is that this came in all black as we went with the black stainless appliances.

  • Great product. The only regret is due to the drill distance from the flame it takes longer for ports to get to right temperature. This is not an energy efficient stow top. Cheaper version of other brands have more effective heat and are more energy efficient.

Perfect for small family07/11/2025 10:15 PM

  • This cooktop has so many features for the serious cook! The extra Melt burner, the grill attachment, the dual burners, are great for preparing that special meal. I have already enjoyed using several of them. I love the lighted knobs!

    Aegis03/05/2021 11:48 PM

  • Has been a joy to cook on. The different burners give lots of options to obtain perfect cooking temperatures. The center griddle pan is awesome for even teens to cook their own quesadillas, grill cheese, pancakes etc... and the pan cleans up very easily and quickly. I like the lighted knobs as I sometimes leave burners on especially after simmering and there is a low flame. I also like the ignition going to High first and then around to low; it just makes sense. My former Kitchenaid cooktop lasted 18 years and was only replaced because of water damage so I hope this new one lasts as long.

  • When my husband and I decided to upgrade our kitchen, it also meant switching from electric to gas cooking…finding a gas plumber, trekking to City Hall for a permit, and waiting for inspections, but SO WORTH THE WAIT!! We now have the KitchenAid KCGS956ESS, a 36”, 5 burner cooktop which gives us a variety of burners, it’s easy to keep clean, and did I mention it came with a griddle! Cooking now is fun and no longer a juggling act of shuffling pans on and off of electric burners. We are thrilled to have made this investment in our home. Thank you KitchenAid!

  • Bought one month ago. Stenciling around knobs and logo difficult to see...not bright black as photos show. Kitchenaid refuses to correct gas pipe dimension in drawings...shows 1 7/16" but almost 4" so had to get new under cooktop drawer. Some knobs get hot because too close to burners. Customer support is terrible...tried to address the dimension problem and waste of time. Kitchenaid has known about these problems for 5 years and still make no effort to make changes. Looked at other brands but this was only cooktop to fit our cutout and features we wanted.

    Baditem09/24/2024 07:21 PM

  • I bought several months ago, still has not been installed yet.one of the burners is not working properly and I have to wait until they can find out where and how they can fix it. They came to my house 3 times already and they were not able to fix it.Kitchen Aid refused to replace it even though the cooktop hasn’t never been used. Worse experience ever. I will never buy any appliance from kitchen aid. This is my worst nightmare ever to look at the cooktop and not able to use it and I have to wait until they fix it. For how long! I don’t even know.

  • Great cooktop. Looks great and works great. I am a former chef and love having natural gas. I did not want to go with something cheap because I know how much I cook. This a a great cooktop that will get plenty of use.

    Groovmster11/10/2022 03:04 AM

  • I had this installed about 2 weeks ago. Love the cooktop with broad variation in burners. The melting burner is great for simmering without boiling or burning the bottom of the pan. My only complaint is the orifices installed in the burners were for natural gas even though I requested propane when ordering. I called customer support, but they were useless. The conversion orifices were provided, but it took a technician to decipher. Great cooktop once you get past the self inflicted challenges. Come on Whirlpool. Make the conversion easier.
