first the knobs stick up over a inch in height. when holding a pan handle you hit your hand on the nobs. also you have to lift pans up over the knobs to remove or adjust. what's the point? also the digital controls are horrendous. to set the timer you have to press buttons four times to set a simple time. delayed cook is even worse. furthermore the delayed timer does NOT show the time to start as the manual says, but rather how many hours and minutes til start. and again takes 5 button pushes to accomplish. burners are consistent, but the oven only goes to 500 deg F. and what is preheat?

Firstly, Hello ALL range manufacturers listen up! I did a lot of research trying to find an electric coil range that didn't look the same as 50+ years ago. I wanted a self cleaning one with no controls in the back so I'd have a nice unobstructed view of my gorgeous backsplash to my hood. The housing development where I live, offers NO gas. I needed an electric coil range because I use cast iron pans. I was advised not to get a smooth top because the cast iron pans would ruin the top if the pans were dragged. Well jeez, here's a news flash; cast iron pans are heavy and of course they will be dragged! It's ridiculous there are no other electric coil top models that have an updated appearance with 2 large coil burners and 2 small coil burners and a drawer under the oven. I looked. I bought it for the look of it and the large oven. I am renovating my kitchen, it appears a little more modern than the still archaic looking coil ranges 2) All Whirlpool did with this range was take the rear top, where the knobs are, and weld it on the front, therefore it juts out quite a bit in front because of that. So the rear burners are harder to reach. I'm a woman at above average height of 5'6", with long arms and I have to stand on tippy toes to see the entire pans on the back burners! How this is rated ADA compliant is a mystery. I'm sure someone got their palm greased, $$. Yes, a person in a wheelchair can better reach the controls in the front, but there is no way they can see and maybe not even reach, the back burners AND there ar no models in the store to see or try this out 3) Because all Whirlpool did was take the back knob control unit off and weld it to the front, the burners and controls are all backwards, not a big deal but you'll have to get reacclimatized to which knob controls which burner. 4) Again because whirlpool took the clunky control panel from the rear and welded it to the front, your oven is lower and the drawer is smaller. 5) There is a huge gap between the front controls and the oven door. So even with the door closed, you can clearly see all the stickers (model & serial #, warnings, etc) on the inside of the door face, the stickers are white and neon orange. The huge gap makes this expensive stove look cheap. 6) It came with no instruction booklet, only a booklet for installation. There are no instructions online either. Not a big deal you say? Well, you're wrong. If you don't use the Lasagna or Pizza button to preheat the oven you'll be waiting hours for it to get to temperature. 7) The top doesn't open so be careful not to spill anything that can get past the drip bowl there is no way to clean it. 8) It cooks well, I haven't had any issues with it shutting off as others have commented on, but I use heavy Calphalon and cast iron pans 9) The handles are too bulky and high, just as another commenter said. But remember Whirlpool chose a cheap update why in the world would they put nice, new, sleek, smaller handles, which would probably cost them 5 cents each due to their buying volume, on a barely thought out remodel such as this? 10) In conclusion: I'd say buy a different range, if your reasons are the same as mine, but there aren't any if your only choice is electricity. I'd have switched to gas if I could, many more options in gas.

Some confusion about the range being a freestanding or slide-in. The Range was bought to be a slide-in. It fit perfectly except for the depth, which protruded 5 11/16 inches from the front of the kitchen counter. Additionally, the knobs on the front control panel create a problem when a person is working next to the range. and clothing gets caught on the side knobs, which are next to counter workspace. Knobs add 1 1/4 inches to top of control panel. Shorter knobs would be better. Range did not come with a broiler pan, a feature we have never experienced with other ranges we have purchased.

Because we like the coil-electric stoves and not the glass top ones, we bought this sight unseen. Our color choices were white or stainless steel. We chose stainless steel, only to realize upon delivery that the range is black, with some silver trim pieces. Very disappointing. The range itself works fine, but the knobs that control the burners are completely opposite of what you would normally expect. The off position is at 6 o'clock and you turn the knob counterclockwise to go from Low to High Temp. The stovetop is difficult to clean because there is a ridge all the way around it that makes it nearly impossible to remove and crumbs or debris from cooking.

All in all it gets the job done, have had it two years. Purchased extended warranty, Downside: The stove top doesn't lift to clean so debris gets stuck where the top meets the control panel. The control knobs are plastic and if you don't consistently push them down to turn them they go from square to round and you have no idea what the settings are. We've replaced all 4 already at $23 a pop. The burners aren't level; have to support the pan handle to cook an egg. The sensors are annoying. With a recipe with raising and lowering temps, I have to turn the burner off then back on to get back to a high boil temperature.

Purchased a month ago, stove top and oven are great. Don’t like the placement of the knob and settings panel. When cooking everything falls or drops on it. Over time will probably not be good. Also paint around burner spill pans is all scarred up from the burners and I’ve only used the burners a few times. With more useage paint will be off. The marks will not clean off so I think it’s going to rust with use. Not real happy with this part of stove.

I’ve waited 2 yrs to purchase a new range that has features like this one! Digital as well as manual. Coil top with easy cleaning front controls. Coil top has safety features that are amazing! Black and stainless is vey attractive as I remodel my kitchen.

I tested this in the store and the only thing that’s keeping me from buying this stove is that the knobs are too big and interferes with the movement of pans. I found that I was constantly knocking my hands against them and would be afraid that my sleeves would catch on them. This is really too bad as it’s the only stove that came close to meeting my needs for a front controlled coil electric range. I hope Whirlpool is reading this and will consider a redesign of the knobs. There are still plenty of us that need these coil top ranges.

I bought a year and two months ago, just past the warranty, the oven including the light doesn’t work at all. The front burner is willy nilly if it’s gonna heat enough to boil water, I bought this because of the location of the knobs , in front , cuz I don’t like reaching over when I’m cooking. And for the coils cuz I can a lot. Only thing I really liked about it is that when the front burner is working it does a great job maintaining the canner temp. Other than that as of today it’s over priced, difficult to keep clean on top, and I don’t really use oven often so I don’t know if the self clean works. I wouldn’t opt for this again. I may just get one half the price that has the knobs in the back and the same features.

I bought this range a month ago and I am very unhappy. When I turn on the burners on, even at low setting, water in a pan boils. I can never use medium. That's like turning the burner onto Hi. I called Whirlpool and sat on the phone for an hour until somebody came on the line and after another half hour he said they will send somebody out to fix it. I live in a rural area and no one has showed up for a week and half. They said call back if no one shows up and they will pay a local person to fix it. Oh great. Another hour on the phone waiting!

After a failed stove right out of the box in late October the replacement stove arrived at Lowe’s in February . The logistics were terrible but part of the problem was that we live in a place which is unserviceable. It wasn’t till yesterday 3/23 that we were finally able to get the stove in place. Snow, mud, weather and help to get it in the house. Stove works fine an so much better than the fake induction stove we had previously. However the slide out drawer is dangerous. The pull handle is an indent in the stainless steel sheet metal. Very sharp! An accident waiting to happen. Built up rubber tape on sharp edge to protect ourselves. Note if we install a handle on drawer to protect ourselves it will cancel the warranty per warranty info.

This is a good basic range. I purchased this one when my 24 year old range died on Thanksgiving morning b/c it was the ONLY electric range with coil heating elements available that is not a stand alone. It comes in several colors - I wanted black, but it wasn't readily available for several weeks and I needed to cook Christmas dinner. The stainless steel version looks great and I am happy with it. PROS: Ordered it on the Whirlpool site and it was cheaper than the big box stores. Delivery happened when it was scheduled (amazing!). Not a ton of "extras", but has the features I wanted - delay/timed bake. After some work on my granite counters and construction of a platform, my builder was able to slide this into the previous spot which held a "drop in" style range. CONS: The owners manual doesn't tell you how to operate the extra features. After digging around on the Whirlpool site, I found a document on the website called "Control Guide". If you scroll way down you find a place where "delay start" is explained and even then it's not very clear. I am still trying to figure this out and it's a bit irritating. The timer feature is good to have, but not very loud - you really have to be in the kitchen to hear it which makes it not very helpful. One of the reviews I read complained about the size of the burner knobs. This has not been an issue for me - all my pots and pans have fit well on the burners and the handles have not banged into the knobs. I am not sure what the reviewer was having trouble with. Overall I am pleased with the range even though it was the only option I had. Hoping it lasts as long as my previous one!

I noticed the enamel is coming off already when I was washing it. It has not been scraped by anything. It has hardly been used. I I will need to get paint even thought the appliance is brand new. That was not a great discovery.

Bought this to replace a new LG smooth top range that did not function as needed. I am an old-fashioned cook, and need burners that allow browning, sautéing, and simmering in my All Clad cookwear. This whirlpool cooktop range does the job. But… That being said… Wish that the painted top and top front were stainless steel. Wish that the metal ‘buttons’ at the center of each burner did not discolor. Both features would have improved the look of this appliance.
KarenI2807/31/2022 05:25 AM
I purchased this range because of the coil top features. I had purchased a different brand with a glass top from another mfg. I DID NOT like it from almost day one. Started a fire on two occasions which burned into the glass. Hard to clean, had to clean after every use or it looked awful. The location of the cook nobs at the front caused the fires. You accidently just bump and it turned on the burner. UGH! The Whirlpool was exactly what I wanted, even though some thought it was the newest type fashion. Sorry , I love it. It is easier to clean and safer!
Kathie05/23/2023 03:12 AM
The new range was installed last week so we don't have a long track record with it but overall it's very good. Where obvious shortcomings are evident is: 1 - the Bottom Drawer seems like an after thought - you will struggle to get it open - basically, metal on metal tracks - the storage space is almost useless - our old Amana had an easy to access drawer that held large pots - this one can't do that. 2 - the center sensor on each burner discolors with use - really? It's obvious after only one week of use. Eventually, they will look burnt out - not a good impression for a new stove. Come on Whirlpool, this is the best you could do? So far, everything else works as expected so that's good but the 2 pts I just made taint the overall impression.

Had this purchase to replace outdated stove that no longer get parts for. Hate with a passion the new coil burners over temp sensors in the middle. Have some pots not heavy enough. Will need to buy sensor less coils. This stove is deeper and will have to now modify the counter top. This is slide in and has no edge covers.
Fireman11/03/2024 02:43 AM
The burners on this stove have a temperature senser that make is impossible to cook at high temp.
Plap 6701/05/2023 08:33 AM
We needed a coil top stove for canning purposes, so we chose this range because it is one of the few remaining stoves available with coil heating elements. Unfortunately, this stove has "smart" coils that are supposed to turn off when the temperature gets too high. Well, we tried to boil water in a large Dutch oven pan on one of the 8" burners. The burner shut off before we could get a rolling boil going. We had a local tech (ordered by Whirlpool) come out to determine if anything was wrong, but everything seemed to be functioning as designed (he also couldn't get water to boil during the 20 minutes it was turned on high). He called Whirlpool to strategize with one of their techs and was told that we should just go out and buy regular, old-fashioned burners ourselves, but Whirlpool would not replace the "smart" burners with anything other than more "smart" burners. So we had to go buy new burners, out of pocket, elsewhere - just to boil water! We are not happy. The oven seems to work fine.
Frustrated07/24/2025 09:58 AM
I love the coils. I'll never have another cook top.
Phil01/27/2022 09:00 AM
I was excited to be getting a new range, as our oven quit on the Whirlpool range we bought 14 years ago, which we were very happy with. I am 5’ tall and this is definitely not made for shorter people. I can barely reach the back burner, and while trying to use them, I am leaning so low to the front burner, that it is actually dangerous. Also it is uncomfortable having to be in a bent over position. My face is directly over the front burner, and I got a blast of heat and steam in my face. I can not reach to the back burner to place a larger pan of water on to heat for tea or to see what is in a deep pan. The stove sticks out so far I can’t reach the switch or outlet on the wall. I am so frustrated and dread using this stove every time I cook. I found it is unsafe for shorter people. We use cast iron pans almost daily, thus we needed a coil burner, and not a smooth top.
Jacy02/06/2023 10:07 AM
I would give the range 5 stars if it had come with side flanges that cover the cutouts of the adjoining counters, like my old range did. I am aware that there are range extenders to use for this purpose, but the openings between the range and counters are not wide enough to slip the extenders in. I ordered the range from a picture and did not notice the lack, so I guess it was my fault.
Estelle08/09/2022 02:31 AM
Very happy to have coils, but disappointed to not be able to lift the lid/stove top to clean out when something boils over unexpectedly. Coil pans do not clean up easily and can not get a manual beyond the one that tells minimally about the stove, but not what certain parts are, like the buttony thing in the middle of the coil and how to clean that. Drawer is significantly smaller( not as long as my last slide in, which I missed in the info). The fact that the range advertises as a slide in and then in some places a freestanding made installment an extra expense, as delivery could not install, as well as measurements not as advertised. I took the old stove I was replacing manual into the store to make sure it would be easy. Found a form online, to help pay for this fix, but it does not look as good as one that sits on top, and if I knew it wasn't, from phone discussions, I could have paid 1/3 the price with all headaches eliminated and just bought a regular free standing. Have had it about a month and works so far. Also getting different answers from Whirlpool as to what the surface exactly is.
Lisa05/11/2023 01:39 AM
I have been using my stove for about 6 weeks and basically satisfied. The coils are constantly having to be pushed back in place which is very annoying.
