I thought I did a good job on investigating which new washer to buy when my old Duet clonked out. It turns out I did not. Everyone that said the new Duets are not like the old ones and it is a real bummer! I had such high hopes that I would have this one for 15 yrs like the last one.

We have only had this machine a few months. We had to special ordered it because we needed a machine big enough to wash comforters in. The drawer that the soap goes in does not fit tight. So periodically - every couple of loads - water leaks out of it and runs down the machine and makes a puddle on the floor. We called the repair man who couldn't get it to do it on the one load he ran through the machine while he was here. So he can't fix it under warranty unless he can get it to do it while he's here. We have to put a towel down on the floor under the front of the machine every time we do laundry in case it leaks.

This washer came brand new with our new house last January. It never worked properly; leaked and sometimes just stopped and other odd things mid-cycle. It took until late July to have it fixed. Turned out to be a pump and the mother board were defective. Even desperate emails to Whirlpool HQ got us nowhere in securing a repair. Now it is leaking again and there is no one who will service it. The local service companies say they hate working with Whirlpool because they don't pay their warranty work. So we are stuck with disposing of a machine less than a year old and buying another brand with better customer service and repair networks.
Frustrated11/07/2021 05:47 AM
While I was initially excited to include this machine as part of my new appliance package, I quickly soured on the unit and ultimately regret the purchase. Major flaws: 1) when stacked with the dryer, the drain tray becomes unusable since the load and go drawer is on the bottom of the washer and can't open inside the drain tray. 2) the control panel only works intermittently, but given the inconsistency, hard to demonstrate for a warranty repair; 3) the load and go dispenser door failed within 16 months, but with a 12 month warranty, Whirlpool didn't provide any resolution besides recommending their parts store.

Having used this washer for three months now, I am certain of my opinion. The washer is extremely quiet and cleans clothes very well. The capacity is sufficient to clean extremely large loads. However, the control panel is beyond frustrating. The unit defaults to the "Load and Go" setting and then refuses to run because the machine thinks there is no detergent. Many times I have walked away from a load believing a cycle has started only to return to still dirty clothes. It regularly takes me 5-8 minutes of pushing buttons just to get the machine to run a cycle. I'm a computer programmer, turning on a washer shouldn't be this annoying!

Love my Whirlpool appliances! I always purchase this brand!

I was excited to buy this unit, but in less than six months it started making a very loud banging noise as though the drum was hitting against the inside wall. SIX MONTHS! The repair person said this is KNOWN to be fixed by replacing the suspension. He said the replacement suspension is a better product. Very disappointing Whirlpool would sit back and wait for customers to complain. You could stop selling them until you fix them and recall those for which you have taken good money from customers like me. NOT HAPPY WITH HOW WHIRLPOOL HANDLED VERY POOR ENGINEERING AND DESIGN. Don't even ask how I really feel.

I bought this washer end of December but couldn't get it delivered until end of January. The company they outsource their installations were fine but didn't turn the water back on to the washer. Luckily my husband knew how to turn it back on. They did not secure the pedestals to the washer and dryer so when we had to pull the dryer out to change the electrical cord the dryer almost fell off the pedestal. I called them to come back and fix this but couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks. When that day finally came I had to call and reschedule but whirlpool has no record the service appointment even being created! So of course the service company calls me to say he's 30 min away from my house and I was stuck explaining to him that whirlpool couldn't find the appt to cancel it. It's all very irritating. Now for the washer. The only good thing about it is it can handle big loads and it is very quiet. I have two big problems with it, it does not dispense the fabric softener and I have no idea why. It just collects water. I can't find any helpful information in the instructions or the website. The other major problem is there is an open seam between the back of the washer drum and the walls of the washer. If you have dog hair or any tiny pieces of paper in your pockets it gets wedged into this crevice and a safety pin isn't even small enough to dig it out. Clothes that I know were not covered in dog hair come out with dog hair several loads after washing the dog's blanket. See the pictures. Junk gets lodged into this seam and it's very difficult to get it out. For this reason alone I'm returning the washer. Who knows what kind of gunk will build up in there over time. When I called the number to process my return I was first told that returns were not possible even though their website says otherwise (this person was VERY rude), then I was told I couldn't return it if I had a service plan, then I was told my service plan doesn't even start for a year, then I finally (4th person) got someone on the phone who simply said "ok I'd be happy to help you with that". Her name is Shuntaye and she is the only helpful person in the entire whirlpool company. If I hadn't been treated so nicely by her I would consider returning the dryer as well for no other reason than this company has really upset me.

I would like to know who decided to make washers 2 inches higher? We had to reconstruct our spot for the washer because of the height. I am sure I am not the only one.
CWarner09/11/2023 03:38 AM
Looks great and easy to operate. Does large loads with no problem.
Ace Bob06/23/2024 03:38 AM
I do like the convenience of load and go. This washer has a nice look to it and wash and spin great. However, this washer isn’t quiet like Whirlpool Whispers. The old set I had were whispers and I had to open laundry door just to make sure I hit start because you couldn’t hear it the cycles running. All in all it is a good choice.

The overall design is not much different from the same brand I bought 10 years ago. It seems to me this new washer I just bought uses much more plastic instead of steel which makes the machine very light and unsteady, especially the door making me wonder if it would be broken anytime. The detergent dispenser is very hard to open and shaky with an open hole on the top which is a very strange design. The good feature is the light side of the washer which is helpful.
Tina05/22/2025 10:46 AM
I like this washer. The first one I bought a few years ago was the Duet. I got this one for the fan feature. It doesn't really completely dry them but it helps. I only wish it was easier to remove and clean the rubber gasket.
Mrs5003/29/2024 03:45 AM
This machine replaced a Whirlpool Duet machine. It doesn't fair well in comparison. The end of cycle signal is nearly inaudible at its loudest setting. The control panel is almost inscrutable (difference between "normal" and "regular"? "heavy duty' and "bulky"), the owners "manual" is a joke, all about how to install the machine and next to nothing on control settings and meanings. There is no end of cycle indication and you can't see into the machine so if you don't know a load was washed by someone else it could set in there for days. It does wash clothes adequately is the best I can say for it.
Sparky06/25/2025 03:33 AM
I love the features on this machine but the manual of instructions is VERY confusing concerning the "Load and Go" feature. Also, when the machine is on spin cycle it sounds like someone is hitting a Gong! Weird!
janiihd05/07/2019 10:22 PM
We purchased around one month ago. Machine is great however we do miss the delay wash feature that our old machine had on it. Machine washes great however we do have a large family which means large loads and when you fill to capacity, the machine seems to easily get off balance only in sound though. It has not sent any error codes however does squeak with the larger loads. Love the load and go. Love the size of the machine and ease of use. Clothes are super clean after wash and it handles delicates great.
meggieb02/20/2020 05:58 AM
this is the worst machine we've ever owned. it is extremely finicky and since the first month we've purchased, we've always experienced random error codes for a variety of reasons. now, less than 4 years since original purchase, it is totally dead. no controls work. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MODEL.

I bought this appliance to replace an eight year old “duet.” The “duet” from 2011 was already in the townhome we purchased in 2016. That machine was going on its 3rd repair when we opted to replace rather than repair again because a previous repair had proved expensive (a dispenser motor). When I caved to the new machine, I thought it would solve the problem I had with the old one: sheets or a bathroom rug that bunched up and did not spin dry effectively leaving me to wring the items out in a sink. Well, this has already happened with the new machine although I have yet to investigate a fix, such as putting in a towel to balance the load. That this happens with a king size sheet, though, is disheartening. I feel stuck with another round of Whirlpool appliances that honestly I expect a better performance from, not to mention that when I did call for a repair on the Duet, the sanctioned company in my area is Diamond Factory which I have come to distrust...

I’ve had whirlpool front loaders since they first came out and will not buy anything else. Great washers and dryers with fantastic features. However, the new control panel is horrible. You have to consult the user manual for several options as it requires pressing and holding two buttons at once (detergent concentration level as an example). And the 3-2-1 countdown to start the machines is not at all useful. Again, I love Whirlpool front loaders and have had at least 6 pairs over the years (we’ve moved a lot and left them behind with each relocation) but the new controls are frustrating in comparison to the previous versions. I hate to say it, but it’s enough for me to consider other brands the next time we purchase new front loaders.

Bought this a month ago and paid 100$ for delivery and installation. Came with a faulty panel that had to be replaced. Also, the delivery team placed it in a drain pan where I can not pull out the bottom drawer to load liquid detergent. I called to see if they could lift the washer so I can actually use the drawer and they said they would charge me 90$ on top of the more than 2000$ I paid. They said the delivery team does not know anything about the washer but only know how to install it. Terrible customer service. Recommend a different brand.

Primary determination of the quality of the product will take place over the next 10 years. Long term reliability is the most important feature of any appliance. Door is much too large. The door is oversized for the opening. If the dispenser drawer is open, the washer door will crash into the drawer sometimes resulting in it being thrown out of the machine and falling to the floor. Laundry rooms are undersized spaces and larger doors don't help. The user operation manual is grossly inadequate. We DO NOT need bilingual instructions, English only. For our use, load and go feature serves no purpose.

I bought this washer 6 months ago. I get the SD error code every time that I run the machine, I have been through 4 different HD laundry detergents, I have used the load and go as well as manually putting in a very small amount. NOW, the machine doesn't drain the water, so I am pulling sopping wet clothes out to put in the dryer and run 3x in order to dry completely. I use the clean washer or drain and spin function every time when i am done in order to drain out the water. Seriously disappointed for the amount of money we spent.

We bought the matching washer and dryer because our old Maytags. When we got them it took us 8 hours to wash our bed sheets and mattress pad, they never fully rang out the water so we put them on the dryer and had to restart the dryer 6 times and by the end of the day just went to bed with wet sheets. I tried putting the dryer on bulky, timed dry, normal, nothing would dry these. I tried another load with some work out cloths, socks and a towel, this time it rang out in the washer but the dryer got the work out cloths dry but not the socks, and towel, again restarted the dryer multiple times and eventually it all can dry but the fabric became hard. I have tried over and over with different cloths and setting all the same results. Returned these and bought LG

it ate a small kitchen rug and cost me over $200 to have it repaired after 1 day.
