Moisture Sensing
Two sensors closely monitor inside moisture and air temperatures to deliver the right results for each load. When fabrics are evenly dry and air reaches ideal temperatures, the cycle stops, helping prevent over- and under-drying.
Wrinkle Shield™ Option
After the cycle ends, help keep wrinkles from setting into clean, dry fabrics with the Wrinkle Shield™ Option. It keeps clothes tumbling for up to 2.5 hours after the cycle ends or until you open the door.
Timed Dry
Take control of your time and the dryness level of your load. Set the control for 15, 30, 60 or 90 minutes when a damp load needs a little extra dry time or when using a drying rack.
End of Cycle Signal
Know when your cycle is finished with an end of cycle buzzer.
Steam Refresh Cycle
Release wrinkles with the Steam Refresh Cycle. It uses water and heat to get clothes ready to wear without rewashing.
Air Only Cycle
Fluff and refresh loads or air out delicates with a cycle that tumbles your items with no heat.
7.0 Cu. Ft. Capacity
With a 7.0 Cu. Ft. Capacity dryer drum, there’s plenty of room to easily handle the large loads you washed in the matching top load washer.

Static Reduce Option
Help decrease static with the Static Reduce Option, which combines a mist of water with tumbling after the load is dry.

I bought this a month ago and I really am pleased with the dryer.

I have had this for about two weeks. I really like the options available on the dryer. The tub is very large. I really like that the light stays on while the door is open to remove the dried clothing.

I’m pretty happy with our new dryer. Its appearance is nice and fits well in our laundry room. For the most part it dries everything well except mixed loads with jeans and sweatshirts. They could always use a little more time so I have to hang them in order for them to fully dry. I do wish the top of the dryer wasn’t slanted as my clean clothes baskets slides off when running.

Second dryer. First one was dented. This second dryer arrived with hidden dents. LOUD! Turns out it is dented everywhere in the back. Cannot believe you would deliver a replacement that is defective.

I purchased this dryer 1 month ago (along with the matching washer) and am completely satisfied with both appliances. The dryer drys the clothes much more quickly and the clothes are not hot as they were with my previous dryer. Great energy saver.

I bought this almost a year ago and. I can say it washes my close really good and I never have to worry about clothes not getting clean. I love the capacity that I can fit in a load, especially when it comes to my pretty big family.

It’s a pretty loud dryer for being brand new. I can’t imagine how much louder it is going to get over time…. I wish the door came downwards to open, instead of to the right. The noise it makes when it’s finished sounds like a laundromat dryer. It’s an extremely obnoxious screech of a beep. Also, the lint trap is in the top of the dryer and when you pull it out to clear it, it drops lint and (in my case) dog hair everywhere on the top of the dryer, making a huge mess. Then, when I place it back in after clearing it, it shoots more dust and lint all over the top of the dryer as you push it back into place. Overall, it’s an ok dryer.

Purchased this item as an upgrade from the previous model. Unfortunately I waited a week prior to doing a load of laundry to find out that it doesn’t dry. Since I waited longer than 4 days Lowes sent me to whirlpool. They sent a technician who told me everything is fine with the unit and recommended getting our vent cleaned, which we did, no help. Extremely disheartening to purchase a brand new unit for it not to work. An average load of laundry needs to go through two “more dry” cycles, and that’s not including towels or blankets. Do not waste your time or money.

After checking reviews and consulting some respected sales & service outlets, and wanting the steam refresh function, we bought the washer and dryer set, which included the WED5050 Dryer. Shortly after delivery we attempted to use the steam refresh feature and after a few moments water was leaking from the door. The door is a bit on the flimsy side and only has 1 clip that holds it closed and the bottom of the door wasn't being held tightly. We confirmed all was connected correctly, seal was good etc, so we thought we'd let a tech come check it, and he immediately said it was defective. Ok, try a replacement, 2nd delivery, unit arrives, is installed and tested, and......water leaks from the door again, and if you push on the bottom of the door it slows it down, but not 100%. Tech#2 comes out to inspect and goes over unit, and says, sorry but you need a replacement. Fast forward, 3rd unit arrives, is professionally installed, and the door seems a bit tighter BUT still leaks from the bottom. Whirlpool wants to send yet another tech to look at unit #3. We can't send the set back, and no unit substitution for the defective dryer has been offered. Now, a few months in and no resolution.

I knew I should have bought old school used Kenmore washer and dryer. These new machines are junk and I should have trusted my gut not to buy new. This machine is used by two people and we are very gentle with it. Less than six months it’s broken and we are waiting on three parts to arrive. We have been without a machine for a month and a half now having to go an hour and a half round trip to a laundromat. I will never buy a whirlpool product again. Once this thing is fixed I will be selling it so I don’t have to go through it again when it breaks down in another six months. If anyone out there has a used Kenmore washer and dryer or a speed queen set, even better let me know.

My 30 year old Whirlpool dryer would not start and even though it was time to replace it instead of try to repair, if parts were available. This dryer is a wonderful replacement due to the new features. In particular, the dryer determines how long to dry the clothes; I do not have to guess how much time it will take. The dryer is so much quieter! The only negative is that the top of the dryer is sloped so you cannot put anything on top of it. I discovered this the hard way when I left fabric softener on it and it slipped off onto the floor emptying about half a bottle. I wish the top was flat also for folding clothes.

This is a great dryer! Only 4 stars though. The installation was the issue. Although all your product photos show the washer and dryer backed up to the wall, it's not possible. Best Buy required a large metal elbow and ridged duct which moves the dryer away from the wall at least 5 inches.

My first load with our new dryer it caught on fire!! The control panel shorted out and arced not even 1 hour after Lowes delivered it!! It was terrifying I'm glad I wasn't in the shower or outside my house could have caught fire!! I contacted Lowes and they replaced the dryer.

My new home builder supplied a Whirlpool washer and dryer as part of an incentive when I bought the home. The dryer operates fine, clothes are consistently dried. I did notice humidity from outside was inside the closed and unused dryer on a particularly sticky MN summer day, and with my experience using 5 different dryers in my homes over the last 30 years, that was a new one for me. The main reason for the 3 stars is that this is a bare bones, basic dryer. Nothing fancy. It's just like the one my mom used in the 1980s, complete with the need to loudly slam the door to shut it. In 2025, I would expect manufacturers to have fixed that door slam situation at a minimum.

This has been the worst appliance purchase ever. Received delivery of the first dryer and it did not dry the clothes all the way, having to do multiple cycles. The door was not flush to the side of the dryer when closed. And lastly, when using the steam cycle the dryer leaked and left a puddle of water on the floor. Thinking this was just a defective item I exchanged it for another. Same problems, only worse. Worse misalignment on the door and a larger puddle from the steam cycle. So I did a third exchange, and had the SAME problems. This was such a surprise from a Whirlpool product. All of our appliances are Whirlpool and have been for years. Our last dryer, a Cabrio (which they don't make anymore) lasted for 15 years and was still working when I got the new one. I only replaced the dryer to match the washer that really did need to be replaced. And now I'm stuck with this awful machine that leaks, has a misaligned door, and doesn't always fully dry our clothing without repeat cycles. What an awful waste of money! DO NOT BUY THIS DRYER!

I bought this dryer on 22 Nov and it was delivered on 23 November!! Dryer is very loud!! I called a repairman in to see if he could assist with the problem!! He checked the dryer thoroughly and found a clip missing that holds the top piece down and he put a towel under the dryer to try and help with the really loud dryer!! I’m disappointed in the dryer as I have never had a dryer that was this loud!! I have never owned a Whirlpool before but this particular dryer has a very loud hollow sound to it!! I think I missed the 30 day deadline to switch it out but I did call the repairman before Christmas but he couldn’t come until 30 December!!

Dryer doesn't dry clothes when using the preset cycles. I called the company I purchased the dryer from and they told me the reason the clothes aren't drying is that I am mixing fabrics. The sensor is confused because some fabrics dry quicker than others. Who dries loads by fabric type? I made sure my exhaust vent was clean and it didn't fix the problem. I tried drying smaller loads to no avail. I have to use the timed dry cycle to dry clothes, but you can't utilize the static reduce feature with timed dry. Along with the dryer not drying, the lint trap is situated at the top of the dryer. Every time you remove the trap lint gets everywhere.

I purchased this appliance almost a month ago, the capacity was surprising. It is probably the best dryer I have ever purchased. It dries clothes and heavy blankets with one cycle.
Brian07/12/2025 06:22 PM
After comparing NUMEROUS dryers, this dryer had the least negative reviews. I did not want a "sensor" feature. If I only use the Timed Cycles, the sensor feature does not activate. At 30 minutes, it does a good job of drying. Like many others commented, the sloping top is a pain. Also, do not like the lint filter. Always have to clean the top of the dryer after cleaning the filter. I miss the stainless drum in my old Amana and the large lint filter located adjacent to the drum area (easily accessed when the door was opened. I would recommend this dryer only because you can avoid the sensor feature and the 30 minute Timed Cycle works well.

Had this dryer for over a month... works great. We love the quiet run. And, it's very nice having a lighted chamber. Door is hinged and opens to the side, rather than down to allow resting of dried clothes. This is a little inconvenient to not have a downward door. I like having the lint catcher atop the dryer. The top surface is engineered to slope, not being a horizontal flat surface to rest anything on it. But, on the other hand, it causes one to have a neater laundry room in putting away things normally cluttering the horizontal tops of a washer/dryer. Dryer works great. It dries a load in one go... Looking forward to very good service.

My previous dryer, had a countdown timer display for cycle time remaining. This new dryer has no timer display whatsoever. The finish cycle tone is “barely” able to be heard and no volume level control for this end tone sound level. I had to buy this model because it had a side hinged door. I will never need the steam option. Non-steam dryer models had a pull down doors only. We have just received our dryer so I cannot review durability at this time.

I am pretty happy with this dryer, It’s huge, works well
Sawoo08/05/2024 01:40 AM
The dryer was malfunctioning upon delivery (it runs forever and thinks the clothes are always wet even when run empty). A technician has been sent out four times over the past 2 months and it's still not fixed. The technician is friendly and great -- whirlpool corp has been making the tech throw single parts at it every visit including replacing the same control board every time. This model or this unit is a lemon. If it was working I would rate it higher, it has a nice physical build quality and massive capacity. Please just fix replace the dryer already. Don't reply with the customer service email, I've talked to them already.

We have only had this dryer for a few weeks, but I really like it. Controls are intuitive - items seem to dry much faster than my old one. Lint trap is easily accessible. Have only used the steam feature once, but think I am really going to like it. The only thing I would like to see improved is the door - have to slam it to shut it and the dryer slides easily. Perhaps this will get better with use though. When we were looking for dryers, the way the door shut was my pet peeve on a LOT of them. This dryer was our choice as it matches the washer we liked and also because I wanted the steam feature, but really didn't want to spend an arm an a leg for it.
